Paralegal - Corporate Services

Palliser Furniture Ltd. - Corporate Services, is looking for an individual to support the Corporate Services business group in meeting their objectives through a proactive and professional delivery of legal, technical, administrative and customer service activities. This is a highly analytical position that requires an individual with high energy and attention to detail.

Skills and abilities required:
· Minimum 5 years in an administrative support role in a corporate legal environment;
· Dealing with high demand situations; adept at working under pressure at a professional level;
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
· Ability to maintain confidentiality on projects;
· Capable of coordinating several projects simultaneously;
· Ability to work independently with little supervision;
· Tact and diplomacy;
· Grade 12 Education;
· Legal Assistant/Paralegal Certificate/Diploma with specific emphasis on business correspondence, communication and time management skills.

Duties Include :
Legal; Information Management related
· Preparation and maintenance of documents pertaining to qualification of legal entities globally;
· Researching issues and information on the Internet;
· Providing assistance in the area of Design Agreements and management of related summaries;
· Projects as assigned by the CSM.

Intellectual Property
· Preparation and maintenance of databases relating to trademarks, patents, design registrations, design agreements etc.;
· Assist in registration and renewal process of intellectual property with various agencies;
· Assist in the preparation of Design Agreements and other such related documents.

Asset Management
· Preparation and maintenance of tenant/lease/square footage databases relating to Palliser and EQ3, ie., corporate, 220 Elm, etc. Providing updated database information to various departments;
· Assist in preparation, review, renewal of leases and agreements/documentation i.e. corporate, 220 Elm, etc.;
· Assist in preparation of land titles office documentation;
· Responsible for overall management of TIPPS program relating to realty and business taxes; assist in gathering information relating to tax matters as required for City of Winnipeg purposes; assist in maintaining realty tax and realty assessment summaries.

EQ3 Franchise
· Preparation and maintenance of databases of franchisee information;
· Preparation and/or review disclosure, franchise and related agreements/documents;
· Assist in preparation, review, renewal, etc. of EQ3 related leases;
· Assist in legal logistics of corporate and franchise store openings/closings, ie., licensing, etc.

Immigration Matters
· Assist in the preparation of immigration documents relating to work permits, and permanent residency matters; follow up as necessary and obtaining information from government sources.

Manufacturing Engineer / Cost Analyst

Palliser Furniture is conducting a search for a self-motivated team player to join their organization as a Manufacturing Engineer / Cost Analyst. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this position will be responsible for labour and material cost variance analysis and reduction projects in collaboration with the Accounting department. This position will also be required to work closely with the Engineering and Production departments in improving work practices and processes to reduce costs.

Skills and abilities required:
· The preferred candidate will possess a Bachelor s Degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or have a Business or Accounting background;
· Previous engineering or cost accounting experience is considered an asset;
· Strong quantitative analysis and data management skills;
· Excellent attention to detail / accuracy;
· Solid communication, time management and organizational skills;
· Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment to effect positive change;
· Self motivated with the ability to work independently;
· Ability to prioritize and multi-task;
· Knowledge of methods, practices, raw materials and equipment utilized in the manufacturing of furniture would be an asset;
· A commitment to quality, lean principles and process improvement.

Duties Include :
Key areas of accountability for this position include:
· Labour and material cost variance analysis and reduction;
· Analyze standard costs of existing styles and recommend changes to improve accuracy of costing;
· Review labour and material standard cost drivers and recommend updates;
· Improve work practices and processes to reduce costs.
